Volume 1:

Spine: Generally good but aged condition. Scuffed, especially at bottom edge where there is a tear approximately 2cms. Tear middle bottom of approximately 1.5cms x 1cm. Top right corner torn at edge of binding with front cover by approximately 3cms.

Front cover (See Photograph): Generally good but aged condition. Binding with spine worn. Some staining to marbled section. Scuffed along outside edges. Bottom right corner outside corner split.

Back cover (See Photograph): Average condition.

Binding with spine worn, scuffed at the top by 1cms x 2cms and torn at the bottom approximately 2.5cms. Join between leather and marbled section discoloured along depth of book. Marbled section stained with one scuff approximately 1cms diameter. Scuffed along outside edges, especially to the bottom. Top left corner scuffed approximately 3cms x 2.5cms. Bottom left corner scuffed and worn at corner.

Inside front cover: Good condition. Join split. Scuffed at top approximately 5cms x 0.5cms. Inside back cover: Back page has come unstuck from the back cover, so the back cover is exposed. Tear to back cover page approximately 0.5cms x 0.5cms. Pages: General condition of all pages as per the photographs supplied, which are of the title page and publisher page of this volume. Pages speckled throughout, some more than others. Join split between pages 830 and 831.

Volume 2:

Spine: Generally good but aged condition.

Scuffed, especially at bottom edge. Approximately 4 small tears.

Front cover: Generally good but aged condition. Binding with spine worn. Some staining and surface scuffing to marbled section. Scuffed along bottom edge with minor scuffing to top and side especially to corners. Bottom right corner outside corner split.

Back cover: Average condition. Binding with spine worn. Join between leather and marbled section discoloured along depth of book. Marbled section surface scuffed. Scuffed along outside bottom edge, minor scuffing to top and side. Inside front cover: Good condition. Join split. Scuffed at top approximately 5cms x 0.5cms. Inside back cover: Good condition. Join split. Pages: Pages speckled throughout, some more than others. Some separating between pages 660 and 661. Tear on the bottom of page 661 approximately 1cm.

Volume 3:

Spine: Generally good but aged condition. Scuffed, especially at bottom edge. Front cover: Generally good but aged condition. Binding with spine worn. Some staining and surface scuffing to marbled section. Scuffed along bottom edge with minor scuffing to top and side especially to corners. Bottom right corner outside corner splitting.

Back cover: Generally good but aged condition. Binding with spine worn. Marbled section surface scuffed. Very scuffed along outside bottom edge with approximately 8.5cms torn, minor scuffing to top and side. Bottom left corner tear approximately 1.5cms x 1.5cms.

Inside front cover: Good condition. Join split. Inside back cover: Good condition. Join splitting. Frayed bottom where outside cover bottom is torn. Pages: Pages speckled throughout, some more than others. 3rd page dirty. Damage to join between title page and pages 667 and 668. Join split between pages 668 and 669. Join split between pages 1002 and 1003. 2 ink stains on page following page 1128 at end of Vol II. Join split between pages 390 and 391.

Volume 4:

Spine: Generally good but aged condition. Scuffed, especially at bottom edge. Front cover: Generally good but aged condition.

Binding with spine worn. Some staining and surface scuffing to marbled section. Scuffed along bottom edge with minor scuffing to top and side especially to corners. Bottom right corner outside corner split and tear approximately 1cm x 0.5cm. Deeper tear to bottom right approximately 1.7cms x 1.5cms. Back cover: Generally good but aged condition.

Binding with spine worn. Join between leather and marbled section slightly discoloured along depth of book. Marbled section surface scuffed. Scuffed along outside bottom and side edge, especially at corners, minor scuffing to top. Tear to bottom edge approximately 6.5cms. Tear to top corner approximately 1cm x 0.4cm. Irregular tear at bottom approximately 2cms x 1.7cms at widest points. Inside front cover: Good condition. Join splitting. Inside back cover: Good condition. Join splitting. Pages: Pages speckled throughout, some more than others.

bid4abook.co.uk The Heir of Craigs by Charles Vipont

A hardcover book, covered with plastic by the original owner. There are brown tape marks visible on the following inside pages of the front and back due to age. There are also some grey/black tape marks found at the back hardcover. It has a dust jacket and all pages are clean and intact. It is in excellent condition. A first edition and signed by the author, Elfrida Vipont, under her pseudonymn name of ‘Charles Vipont’. Rare for such a signature as she signs under her real name. Signature verified as authentic by staff from The University of Manchester where her personal papers are archived. First published in 1955 by Geoffrey Cumberlege, Oxford University Press, London. Printed in Great Britain by Richard Clay and Company, Ltd., Bungay, Suffolk. Illustrated by Tessa Theobald:

Het Leeven Van Hai Ebn Yokdhan as published by Willem Lamsveld in 1701. The book was first translated in Latin by Edward Pocock titled ”Philosophus autodidacticus epistola”, this edition published in Dutch Rotterdam. The book is in very good condition as are the pages and illustrations, which can be seen from the photographs. A scarce and sought after edition:
